The State of Orphanages in India

There are many orphanages across India that seek to protect underprivileged and vulnerable children from all kinds of physical and mental harm. Orphanages are supposed to ensure the safety of the children under their care. Unfortunately, that is not the case across most orphanages in India. Although they may seem perfectly safe from the outside, orphanages in India often conceals terrible acts of exploitation against children. This is terrible considering that orphanages are supposed to be safe spaces for children in need of protection and support. Young homeless children are left entirely to the mercy of the caretakers. Often, they face a great deal of physical mental, sexual, and psychological abuse at the hands of these caretakers.
The mistreatment of children in orphanages is extremely common and widespread across the country. These orphanages also depend on the financial support of various generous donors to keep them running. It's a pity that despite enjoying public support and funds, these orphanages continue to be poorly run and managed. Children face an immense amount of harm, neglect, violence, and abuse in orphanages and privately run 'homes'.
Additionally, most of these orphanages lack the proper infrastructure needed to ensure the comfort of children. Improper lighting, cramped and squalid accommodations, along with prevalent abuse make these orphanages a terrible place to live in. The children who stay in orphanages and shelter homes are scared, vulnerable and in desperate need of comfort and support. Often there isn't any well-trained staff to take care of the children and their needs. The operational inadequacies of these orphanages also lead to a fall in the levels of adoption.
Save the Children is one of the country's most trusted NGOs. It works tirelessly to protect and promote the rights of impoverished and vulnerable children all around the globe. This NGO believes in empowering these children by providing them with the necessary healthcare, nutrition, and education they require to build bright futures for themselves. Consider donating to NGOs like Save the Children instead of orphanages to transform the lives of millions of children in need. Under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961, a donor can avail income tax exemption on donations made to charitable organizations. Since 2008, Save the Children has positively enriched the lives of over 10 million underprivileged children in India. It works tirelessly to ensure that the most marginalized and impoverished children experience a happy, safe, and secure childhood.
