Donation can save girl child in India.

The sex ratio in India is extremely skewed against females. As per the Child Sex Ratio revealed by the 2011 Population Census, there are 914 females born per 1000 males. The sex ratio is India is heavily biased against females. Therefore it has become a major concern for Indian society to save girl child. India has always been a predominantly patriarchal society. Females in India face discrimination and gender bias at every stage of their lives. There are several sections of Indian society where the girl child is treated as a burden. The male child is preferred due to their widely perceived income-earning capabilities. As a result of which, not only are girls discriminated against, but they are also forced to miss out on receiving proper education. There is now a need more than ever to save girl child in India. Girls are often confined to their homes, and do not receive the same opportunities as boys to grow and learn. Social evils such as female foeticide, female infanticide, female genital mutilation, child marriage, and child labour and child sexual abuse are still widely prevalent in India. All of these practices are highly detrimental to the physical and mental health of females. NGOs like Save the Children are dedicated to improving the sex ratio in India. They work with various communities and NGOs to ensure that the girl child not only survives, but thrives. Organisations like Save the Children work dedicatedly to raise awareness on the issues faced by the girl child in India.

The ‘Beti bachao beti padhao’ campaign

The ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative was launched by Prime Minister Modi on January 22, 2015, in Haryana. Translating into ‘Save the Girl Child, Educate the Girl Child’, this program aimed to give young girls access to large-scale welfare services. It was devised to give the girl child access to survival, safety, and education while celebrating the girl child in an effort to fight India’s deep-rooted gender bias towards women. ‘ Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana ’ is India’s most high profile and widespread campaign to empower the girl child.
